Established in 1984 by Dianne Schrack, Wicker Works and Patio Too is the metro area's leading wicker and patio store, offering Indiana's largest selection of items and styles at exceptional levels of quality. Originally a predominantly indoor furniture store on North Green Street in Brownsburg, the current 13,000-square- foot warehouse-showroom was opened in 1997, just as the outdoor living trend was starting to migrate from the West. Now joined in business by daughters Tammy Hession and Kelli Pawlowski, Dianne closed the downtown Brownsburg store in mid- 2017 to better serve her customers. Since the move to the new location, outdoor living has evolved immeasurably in the Midwest. "It used to be that people just had a table and a couple of chairs outdoors," says Tammy. "It was a bit slow to catch on here, but as clients would go to California or Arizona and experience indoor-outdoor living, they would come back and decide that they would like to do the same thing here at home." Before long, the single table had morphed into entire outdoor living room suites and even kitchens; at the same time, fabrics and materials became more sophisticated and durable as clients demanded higher quality. "We used to carry a company that used heavy metal that always rusted," says Dianne. "e cast aluminum we offer now is heavy, but it's not going to rust." Today, state-of-the art fabrics, especially those manufactured by Sunbrella, ensure that outdoor furniture not only survives the extremes of our climate unscathed, but that it also maintains its original color for years. Resistant to plant and animal stains, food and even red wine, these revolutionary materials ensure that your outdoor pieces will continue to look as good, if not better, than your indoor furniture for many years. As internet sales seem poised to put all but the most resilient brick-and-mortar establishments out of business, Dianne is confident about the future. "What people have learned over time is that when you buy something online or see it in a magazine, that's no substitute for being able to come here and sit for a while," she tells us. "We can supply any piece in the showroom in any color or pattern in the catalog. What's more, if you order a piece in the winter, we will hold it until you are ready to start using it." Although Wicker Works may be off the beaten path for some, it is also a one- of-a-kind destination, where customer care meets manufacturing of the highest order. Certainly, big box stores might be cheaper and more convenient, and online shopping might be simplest of all, but we believe that when making a significant purchase, whether it be a car or outdoor furniture, there is no substitute for quality and service. Just ask Sophisticated Living's Editor-In-Chief. His cushions have been outside for three years now and they still look as good as new. sl For more information, visit wickerworksofbrownsburg.com.
