Held at the Conrad Indianapolis, close to 300 guests enjoyed Cuban food, Latin jazz by Pavel and Direct Contact, a silent auction, a wine pull, inspiring refugee speakers, and an appearance by best-selling author John Green. Green shared the personal stories of Syrian refugees he met as part of his advocacy work with the UNHCR to put a human face on the crisis. "Syrian refugees and refugees around the world-- they are OUR people," he told the crowd. e event raised more than $105,000 for Exodus' resettlement programs and services that assist refugees in rebuilding their lives in Indiana. A $15,000 challenge match from the David P. Sheetz Foundation inspired people to give generously at the event. Exodus will welcome more than 900 refugees this year who have fled war, persecution, or violence in countries such as Burma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, and more. 134 slmag.net
