Page 38 of 151 37 Enhancing the event's elegant aura each year are the picturesque tailgating tableau created by participating automobile clubs who bring their finest cars and vivid imaginations in an attempt to win the coveted Grand Prix des Clubs Prize with spreads ranging from a simple picnic in the grass to a silver candelabra-laden tablescape. Forty clubs made the trip to Chantilly bringing 800 cars that were on show in the domain. Ensuring that guests will be appropriately attired for such an elegant fete, awards are handed out to the person deemed "most elegant," as well as the woman with the most beautiful hat. After the event, founder Patrick Peter remarked, "Our concours is now acknowledged as one of the best and most beautiful in the world. is is an important factor in the eyes of the manufacturers. We also have to attract a bigger crowd to reach a figure of 20,000 or 25,000 spectators in the next few years.
